What’s the deal with Socrates? If Plato is the only reason we know about him, did he even exist? Do any of us actually exist?

Though he is credited as one of the creators of Western philosophy and as possibly the first moral philosopher, Socrates never wrote any of his ideas down. His teachings only live on through the work of his pupils, like Plato. Despite teaching almost exclusively about ethical dilemmas, and morality, Socrates was seen as an enemy of the State for his criticism of the government which he viewed as a corrupt entity who misused their power. His ultimate ethical dilemma was whether to save himself, or stand up for his beliefs, and unfortunately for Socrates, he was eventually put to death due to his controversial opinions.
